Hi........I'm Joyce Taylor

My work is for you if you love to bring the outdoors in, to be reminded of the beauty of the North East of Scotland with it's ever changing seasons, it's picturesque coastal villages and rural landscape.

​​I mainly paint seascapes and landscapes of the north east of Scotland and the occasional still life.

I aim to capture a fleeting moment in time where nature or light conditions have drawn my attention to an everyday scene or object.

Nostalgia runs through my work; be it the places or objects of my childhood or the china jugs, silver tea pots or table cloths belonging to my grandmother which appear in my still life paintings.

Country life and rural scenes are featuring more often as I look out of my studio to the changing seasons and weather conditions.

​I also like to find inspiration when travelling and I am naturally drawn to boats and reflections on water, be it the canals of Venice, the harbours of Scotland or the South of France, in particular the area around Collioure and Port Vendres with it's wonderful warm golden light, or the ports in Brittany where the colours are cooler. ​​

​

I studied drawing and painting at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen where I was awarded the Patrick Allan Fraser, Hospitalfield scholarship at the end of my 3rd year and during that residency at Hospitalfield House Arbroath, began my love of coastal and landscape painting.

I taught Art and Design in secondary schools in Aberdeenshire before taking early retirement from my job as faculty head, in 2018.
